Who knew that there were different lengths of roses and that this makes the size of the flower heads differ? When I started my own shop and began to order my own flowers, I found this out quickly! While ordering online, different wholesales offer different lengths of roses. I have seen up to 100 cm length roses before, but for this purpose, I am just going to talk about 40 cm, 50 cm and 60 cm roses.
The 40 cm roses are quite short stems, quite small flower heads. These are typically found at grocery stores as they are less expensive and a lower quality overall. They can be great if you don't need them to last very long, such as using for a boutonniere, or a small bud vase for an event. Maybe you need maximum stems for value. These are a great bet if you are looking for the best bang for your buck!

50 cm roses are what I carry in my shop, they are quite a bit nicer than the 40s (in my opinion). The stem grows longer, giving the head of the flower more time to grow! The length from the bottom of the head of the rose to the top is noticeably larger, as well as the circumference of the rose itself. This is the most common length that most florists carry, but every shop is different!
60 cm roses are the start of "long stem" roses. If you are looking for luxury, size, length and to impress - you have found it! These ones make a statement, and when I order these in I definitely notice the size difference between them and the 50s I normally get. Some florists do choose to carry 60s regularly, instead of the 50s.
The cost does definitely increase with the length of the stem, as it takes time to grow longer, and requires more care at the floral farms who grow the roses. It takes time from staff, as well as resources and square footage in the greenhouses!
