Summer Wedding Blooms

Updated: Nov 18, 2021

Summer weddings are incredibly popular, especially in areas like Edmonton where the weather is only warm for a short period. If you’re planning a summer wedding, there are many wonderful flowers to choose from. Here are six of our favourites.

Hydrangea

This is one of the most popular wedding blooms. It’s available in a variety of colours, and it is relatively easy to source in the summer. It is both large and bold, as well as delicate and pretty.

Peony

These dramatic flowers can be a bit pricier, but as long as your wedding is in June or mid-July, they are easy enough to source.

Chrysanthemum

Hear me out – we know chrysanthemums seems like a simple flower, but that’s its beauty. It comes in a variety of colours, is affordable, readily accessible, pairs well with other flowers in bouquets, and is sturdy in the heat.

Butterfly Ranunculus

This is a new flower on the summer wedding scene – a cousin to the ranunculus flower and a cousin to the anemone – and it resembles a butterfly as it blooms. It is typically available in June and July, and comes in a variety of colours.

Dahlia

If you need a large flower to anchor a bouquet or to stand out on its own, a dahlia is a great choice, and relatively easy to source for an Alberta wedding.

Sunflower

If you’re planning a rustic wedding, a sunflower is a perfect choice, and screams “big Alberta sunshine.” It is large enough to go solo, but alsp looks wonderful in a bouquet.
